Schaumburg is a suburb of Chicago, 28 miles northwest of the Chicago Loop. It is located in both Cook and DuPage County and in 2017 it was named by Money Magazine the 9th Best Place to Live in the United States.
It’s connected to the city by a major highway (I-90E) and train (Metra) which makes getting to downtown Chicago fast and easy. For that reason, many residents commute daily for work and for pleasure during the weekend.
Schaumburg is also part of the so called Golden Corridor – a number of suburbs northwest of Chicago with a lot of big companies in the service industry and manufacturing. It’s no wonder that the unemployment rate is only 3.7%.
The population of Schaumburg is around 75,000 but the 5000 businesses with offices in the city employ another 75,000. What that means is that the population of this suburb doubles on week days (Schaumburg is so business-friendly that a few Fortune 500 companies chose it for their headquarters).
But this northwestern suburb is not only an economic hub but also a place for shopping and entertainment as well as a place for recreation (it has 1,100 acres of parks). I doubt there’s an Illinois resident who hasn’t heard of the Woodfield Mall which by the way is the largest employer in the city – there are about 4000 people working in its hundreds of high-end stores.
When one is not working or shopping they could enjoy the 1100 acres of park that Schaumburg has to offer, weather permit of course, we are talking about the Midwest here (according to some stats Schaumburg gets 189 clear days per year). If you have small kids, you can enjoy any of the 55 playgrounds and if your kids are older and into sports – any of the 34 ballfields (12 of them are lighted).
And since we’re talking about kids we have to mention one of the main attractions – Legoland Discovery Center, located in the Streets of Woodfield. On any given day there are at least three school busses in the parking lot, kids just love it.
The median home price in Schaumburg is $234,999 which makes living in this suburb affordable. If you can’t afford a house you can still live in and enjoy everything Schaumburg has to offer by purchasing a condo.
Another thing that draws people to this Chicago suburb is the schools (District 54). The district operates 21 elementary schools, 5 junior high schools and one combined K8 school.
If you are single with kids and are into nightlife and entertainment Schaumburg delivers in that department, too. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to satisfy every taste. And if you don’t feel like going home after a gourmet dinner you can always hit one of the many night clubs that offer live music and comedy shows.
So, whether you want to visit Schaumburg for a day of shopping and entertainment or move-in you can’t go wrong.
